Procedure COMMUNICATION WITH TEACHERS Communication and co-operation between parents and teachers is a must for the welfare and happiness of the child. Parents’ own understanding and support is essential. Problems and questions should be discussed with the teacher or the Principal. However, we ask that parents do not interrupt teachers and children when classes are in progress, or when teachers are assembling or moving children to and from classes. Teachers are responsible for the safety of children at all times and should not be distracted from that obligation. Please make an appointment to see teachers after school or at a mutually convenient time. SICKNESS Young children in their first year at school are prone to illness. In the past, children have been sent to school despite showing obvious signs of illness. It would be appreciated if parents would keep at home any child who has a temperature, badly running nose, bad cough or any other worrying symptoms. A sick child is unhappy at school and therefore cannot be expected to learn. ABSENCES Departmental regulations require parents to send a note explaining why a child was absent from school. This must be sent, even if you may have phoned or spoken to a teacher. Should your child be absent for more than 2 days, please ring the school office so that a message can be passed on to the class teacher. If parents have a special appointment for their child during school hours, it is necessary to send a note to the teachers on such days, Parents need to collect a form from the office and fill it in before collecting the child from the classroom. This form is then given to the class teacher when the child is collected. (See SIGNING CHILDREN IN/OUT) SIGNING CHILDREN OUT / IN If there is a need to take your child home during the school day, you are asked to :-
EXTENDED ABSENCES Parents must obtain an Extended Absence Form, from the office, and complete it four weeks in advance if children will be away from school for more than a few days in order that they accompany their family on holiday. Teachers are willing to advise parents as to what school work the children could undertake while absent, however they are not expected to monitor the work or carry out large amounts of corrections upon the child’s return CHANGE OF ADDRESS/PHONE NO. Please notify the Principal or Office in writing of any change of address or phone number. SCHOOL TRANSFERS If you are leaving the district make sure that you obtain an EXIT FORM two weeks before you move, so that you can obtain a Transfer Form for your child’s new school. SCHOOL MEDICAL The School Nurse visits our school each year to test the children’s sight and hearing. The Dental Van visits our school from time to time for free dental examination and any necessary treatment. During the school holidays the School Dental Service will be operating. The Clinic closest to our school is at Lalor Park, Linoak Avenue, Lalor, Phone 9465-1351. SCHOOL FEES Accounts are sent out at the beginning of first, second and third term. These should be paid in full within twenty one days. Any requests for a variation to this procedure should be addressed to the Parish Priest. ROAD SAFETY There are two marked school crossings. Could you please make sure your children use these crossings and could you please observe the ‘NO PARKING’ signs on either side of these crossings and around the school as it is for your child’s safety. LIBRARY BAGS Library books are exchanged weekly. A library bag is required. These can be purchased from the school uniform shop or you may supply a home-made string-drawn bag (40 cm x 30 cm) labelled with your child’s name. The child may also use this bag to carry his/her reader and cover. ART SMOCK Each child requires an art smock. We recommend nylon smocks, with velcro fasteners, which can be obtained through the school uniform shop. LUNCH BOXES AND DRINKS Please do not send milk (it curdles), or cans of drinks (forms gases and bursts) and no glass bottles. Make sure that your child’s lunch box is marked clearly with his/her name. Your child will be encouraged to eat all of his/her lunch, so please do not over pack the lunch box. Perhaps a small sandwich and a piece of fruit or a healthy snack for playtime. When packing lunch, show your child which is for play-lunch / big lunch. SCHOOL TUCKSHOP The school tuckshop is conducted by Canteen Management Services. It is open each day of the week for School Lunch orders and tuckshop items (Lunch time only). Tuckshop price lists are issued to families at the beginning of the year. Children must never leave the school grounds to buy their lunch, and parents are asked not to bring treats. e.g.: chips, McDonald’s etc. |
